Matariki
This work is inspired by the story of Matariki, drawing on the traditions of ikamate, hautapu, and the guiding presence of the whetū. The tohu within the painting carry many layers of kōrero, leaving space for each viewer to find their own meaning. For me, the beauty lies not only in the story I place into the work, but also in the stories others may see within it.
Created with repurposed timbers and plywood, the marks and blemishes of the materials remain, adding to its organic, rustic feel.
